Fully Engineered, Eurocode-Compliant Aviation Shelters

Toro’s fully engineered fabric aircraft hangars are trusted by military, aviation, and aerospace organisations across the globe. Designed for mission-critical reliability, our aviation shelters are the preferred choice of numerous armed forces thanks to their engineered strength, Eurocode-certified safety, and dependable performance in any environment.

Every Toro aviation shelter is custom-designed to meet even the most complex operational requirements. Beyond aircraft protection, our structures excel as ground support facilities, baggage handling zones, temporary terminals, and adaptable operational buildings.

Built for Aircraft Maintenance & Operational Efficiency

Aircraft maintenance demands dependable, safe, and controlled environments. Toro hangars provide ideal working conditions for engineers and technicians, ensuring uninterrupted maintenance operations and protecting aircraft, tools, and sensitive equipment from weather-related delays or degradation.

Key Advantages of Toro Aviation Shelters

Exceptional Clearance & Unobstructed Space - Clear-span design with no internal columns maximises height and width, providing unrestricted aircraft access and efficient use of space.

Engineered for Extreme Environments - Built to withstand high winds, snow loads and harsh climates while protecting aircraft, equipment and personnel from the elements.

Energy-Efficient Natural Light - Translucent PVC fabric fills the interior with daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting and lowering energy costs.

Rapid Deployment & Relocatable Design - Available as temporary, permanent or relocatable structures, with modular construction and containerised transport for easy redeployment.

Fast Installation -Pre-engineered components enable rapid installation in most weather conditions, reducing disruption and project times.

Eurocode-Compliant Structures for Lifetime Confidence

When safeguarding valuable aircraft, structural reliability is non-negotiable. Toro hangars are designed and manufactured in Europe to strict Eurocode standards, guaranteeing long-term durability and resistance to local wind and snow loads.

Developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN), the Eurocodes are among the world’s most advanced structural engineering frameworks. Their adoption extends well beyond Europe, with countries such as Singapore implementing them in place of national codes.

For military-grade operations—whether expeditionary deployments or aircraft servicing during active missions—Toro’s Eurocode-compliant hangars deliver uncompromising safety, structural integrity, and absolute reliability.

Let us support your mission from planning to deployment

Our engineering and design teams are here to help you optimise your site layout and select the right aviation shelter or fully engineered aircraft hangar for your operational needs. Whether you need precise internal clearance planning, guidance on maintenance bay configuration, or support in forecasting future expansion, we’ll ensure your chosen structure is the most efficient and reliable solution for your mission.

With extensive experience delivering aviation shelters for defence forces and commercial airports, Toro adapts proven, Eurocode-compliant structural formats to the specific demands of each operation. The result is a hangar or aviation support building that performs exactly as your environment, aircraft type, and workflow require.

Below are several of our most effective aviation shelter profiles—each engineered for different climatic, load, and operational scenarios. High-strength arched structures offer exceptional performance in regions with significant snow or wind loading, while low-profile double-pitch designs are ideal where height restrictions apply or rapid deployment is a priority.

Explore the options below to identify the optimal structure for your base or airport—or let our team guide you through the selection process and help configure a solution built for absolute reliability.

Arch Roof Type

A continuous curved profile naturally distributes loads evenly across the structure, providing exceptional stability and wind performance.

Double Pitch Roof Type

A traditional peaked roof design delivers maximum internal height and efficient rainwater drainage.

Polygonal Roof Type

A faceted geometric form offers enhanced structural rigidity over large spans, with added efficiency of removing rolled steels.

Single Pitch Roof Type

A clean mono-slope design gives effective water runoff and suits installations where height needs to transition in one direction.

All Toro Structures can be ordered with the below options

This list is not exhaustive. Other options are also available...

Sliding Doors

Heavy-duty wide-span sliding doors provide smooth, unobstructed access for aircraft movements, ground support vehicles, and maintenance operations, enhancing efficiency while maintaining reliable weather protection for aviation shelters.

Electric Doors

Automated electric doors offer fast, controlled opening and closing for aircraft access, reducing turnaround times and improving operational safety while providing dependable weather protection for aviation environments.

LED Lighting

Energy-efficient LED lighting systems deliver bright, reliable illumination for safer 24/7 operation, reducing maintenance costs and improving visibility inside the structure.

Ventilation

Integrated mechanical ventilation systems regulate airflow and temperature within the aviation shelter, helping to minimise condensation, protect sensitive aircraft components, and maintain a safe, comfortable working environment for maintenance crews.

Foundations

Foundation requirements for aviation shelters depend on ground conditions, operational demands, and whether the structure is permanent, temporary, or relocatable. Toro offers a full range of engineered, Eurocode-compliant solutions—from reinforced concrete strips and up-stands to ballast systems and rapid-deployment ground anchors—each designed to provide the necessary strength, uplift resistance, and durability. We also understand that many airfields and bases already have suitable foundations in place, and we routinely design our shelters to integrate seamlessly with existing slabs or infrastructure to reduce costs and installation time.

For fast-paced aviation environments, minimal-excavation options are often preferred. Toro’s ground anchoring systems can cut construction and groundwork costs by more than 50%, enabling accelerated deployment with minimal disruption to airport or military operations. By working closely with your groundwork contractor and using all available site data, we ensure every shelter sits on the most efficient, reliable, and cost-effective foundation system—engineered for long-term performance and absolute operational confidence.

Case Study - RAF Coningsby, Lincoln

Aircraft Shelter Canopies – RAF Coningsby

Toro Shelters supplied and installed a series of interconnected aircraft shelter canopies at RAF Coningsby, providing a practical and cost-effective covered working environment for aircraft parking, inspection and maintenance activities. The project required a rapid installation programme to minimise disruption to ongoing airfield operations while delivering a durable structure capable of meeting the demanding requirements of a front-line military base.

The completed development comprises eight adjoined canopies, creating a continuous covered facility approximately 160 metres in length. Designed specifically for aircraft movements, the structures feature open front and rear elevations, allowing Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to enter and exit freely while maintaining efficient drive-through access.

Key Features

  • Eight adjoined canopies creating approximately 160m of continuous covered space.
  • Fully galvanised structural steel frame for long-term durability and corrosion resistance.
  • High-performance white PVC membrane cladding system.
  • Open front and rear elevations to allow unrestricted aircraft access and movement.
  • Additional roof-mounted thrust protection panels installed to withstand jet exhaust loads from departing aircraft.
  • Fast-track installation programme to minimise disruption to airfield operations.
  • Bespoke column shoe system used to level the structure on the existing concrete runway slab.
  • Clear-span internal layout providing unobstructed operational space.
  • Low-maintenance construction designed for long service life.

The completed installation provides RAF Coningsby with a versatile and durable covered facility that enhances operational efficiency while protecting aircraft and personnel from the elements throughout the year.
