Permanent & Temporary Indoor Sports Halls

Toro’s Shelters can supply multi-use or specifically tailored Indoor Sports Buildings

Indoor Sports Halls – We’ve Got You Covered.

We recognise the importance of well being. Hence Toro Shelters has planned, designed and installed dozens of indoor sports hall facilities nationally.

Let’s face it, Britain’s weather is not always conducive to playing sport. Therefore, in order for sport to flourish and to develop young players and teams, Toro has created environments which encourage them to play. Likewise, clubs and operators need to be able to generate reliable revenue streams by extending available playing times. For example, indoor tennis tournaments can ensure people play tennis at times when they may otherwise not play (winter or rainy/windy days). Similarly this is not guaranteed at outdoor events.

Over the past decade covered or Indoor Sports Halls and leisure facilities have become extremely popular. In the United Kingdom, covering sports facilities is a great opportunity for clubs and operators. As a result, they can maximise the use of their facilitites. Additionally, there are now many schemes financing covering of facilities to get more people playing sport more often.

Key considerations when designing Indoor Sports Halls

Furthermore, we have provided sports organisations, schools and local communities with an ideal playing environment. As a result, they are able to incorporate a wide range of auxiliary options within each venue.

Firstly, if you are using an insulated or double skin structure you should pay careful attention to the lighting. Hence we can check that the light level and quality of light on the playing area is of high quality.

Secondly, lighting of your indoor sports hall should be holistic. For example, there should be an even, bright and yet glare-free playing area. Therefore, all lighting systems should be designed to provide adequate visibility. For instance, to be able to see clearly in all areas of the court during play for both players and spectators.

Additionally, our incredibly strong composite membranes that cover the buildings are opaque. Therefore, they can transmit enough light to negate the need for artificial lighting during daylight operation. Furthermore, they remain impervious to wind, rain, snow and chemical attack.

We use latticed trusses in all of our indoor sports halls. Therefore, we can allow for an open internal space free of columns or supports. Additionally, this extra internal building height and clear-span results in a massive open space in which to play.

In buldings, where there is a differential between inside and outside temperatures, condensation will form.  On the other hand, this can be avoided by either ensuring adequate airflow or insulating the structure. Hence, Toro’s indoor sports halls can incorporate an inner insulation layer. As a result, this reduces the vapour and condensation in the activity area.

An inner lining in a Tensile Fabric Sports Hall will improve the appearance of the arena and:

  • reflect light back on to the playing surface,
  • improve the structure’s insulation, thus improving the performance of the HVAC system,
  • significantly reduce condensation in the building.

You may also consider having retractable or sliding door slides included. Consequently this can be opened in the summer months or warm and calm days to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Toro Shelters sports halls can be climate controlled. Additionally sports hall sides can be opened. As a result, the playing conditions are always perfect for the player. However, this is not always possible with outdoor sport facilities.

Furthermore, an effective HVAC system can be installed. Hence temperature controlled fresh air can be fed in with minimal noise or draft.

It is recommended that all playing arenas must have relatively low levels of noise so that players can concentrate on their game. The following considerations should be made planning your covered sports facilities:

  • Keeping fan and air handler noise to a minimum;
  • Consider the playing surface you choose – carpet type surfaces dampen noise;
  • Side and divider netting reduces noise levels;
  • Fabric structures also absorb more sound than steel structures;
  • Double skins or insulation layers will greatly reduce noise levels.
